Herbst Architects K Valley
Winner of Home of the Year in 2016, this outstanding piece of architecture must of been a real treat to work on and with these clients.
“The clients brief called for a response which engaged with the site in both a filmic as well as practical way, they live a life of self-sufficiency while on the land, including growing, animal husbandry and butchery.
The clients spoke of materials that have a patina of age, of sustainability, of recycling and adaptive re-use, of provenance of materials.”
I spent a lot of my childhood roaming the back country hills in North Taranaki on the family farm, rusted old hay sheds quickly come to mind when I view this piece. Bravo to the Herbst Architects team, for making something so functional look so beautiful and at home within its surrounds.
